India won by 43 runs against Sri Lanka in the first T20I

The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka was played at Pallekele. Sri Lanka won the toss and they decided to bowl first. India took the full advantage of batting first. 

They put a huge total on the board while batting first. Suryakumar Yadav was fulfilling the captaincy role in this match against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Sri Lanka was also looking very good at one stage until they properly collapsed. Gautam Gambhir will also happy because it was his first victory as a Indian cricket team's head coach. Sri Lanka had a very tough T20 WC 2024, where they performed poorly. Now, in the opening match of the T20I Series against India, they lost it. Sri Lanka is going in a very tough phase. They lost the matches continuously. While, india is continuing its winning streak in T20Is. From the start of the T20 World Cup 2024, India only lost one T20I match. They lost to Zimbabwe, but they made a good comeback and won the series. 

India: Batting Performance 

Young and fearless opener Yashawi Jaiswal yet again gave India a strong start alongside with Shubman gill. Yashawi Jaiswal made 40 runs on just 21 deliveries with the help of 2 sixes and 5 boundaries. Shubman gill, who also played with some strike rate, scored 34 runs on just 16 balls. Both the openers sat the platform for india. Captain Suryakumar Yadav continued the momentum. He got out after scoring 58 runs on 26 balls. He played with a strike rate of 223.08. Rishabh Pant was missed out his well deserved fifty by just one run. India gave a huge target of 214 to Sri Lanka. 


Sri Lanka: Bowling Performance 

Every bowler gave away runs at the economy rate of almost 10. Only Wanindu Hasaranga has bowled economically. He took the wicket of Yashawi Jaiswal and gave away 28 runs in his four overs. Matheesha pathirana got 4 wickets as well in his four overs spell. 

Sri Lanka: Batting Performance 

Sri Lanka had started very well. Their openers scored a magnificent partnership together. Pathum Nissanka played 79 runs innings in 48 balls with a strike rate of almost 165. While, Kusal Mendis scored 45 runs with the help of 7 fours and 1 six. Sri Lanka were truly on the driving seat until 14 overs. Since then, they completely collapsed. Until 14 overs, they were 140-1. But, their middle and lower order didn't bat well. Hence, they managed to score only 170 at the end. 

India: Bowling Performance 

Indian bowlers started poorly. They didn't took a single wicket in the powerplay phase. But in the last 5 overs of the innings, their bowlers was unplayable. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each. Riyan Prag, who only bowled 8 balls, got 3 wickets.
